Start taking 1-4 to State Road 46 (not 46A), head east to the river there you will see the ramp and parking area at the base of the bridge. Never crowded, 2, 2 lane ramps are there and they have nice long dock for tieing off to.. easy to get in and out here.
There is a no wake/manatee zone till you get passed the bridges a bit in either direction. If you head right you will hit Lake Monroe.. gator infested! If you head left you will be on the St. John's river.. you can follow this all the way to blue springs.. you can park on the beach at blue springs state park and walk up the dock to the spring to swim.. the park is closed to swimmers and divers during the winter Nov. 15-Feb 15th due to the massive amount of manatees that go there. No cost to park and walk.. during those months expect to see about 40 manatees.. there is a long manatee zone prior to getting to the springs so be patient and look our for our little friends..
bring your snorkle, mask and fins and jump in and quitely swim around and you are sure to find a few playful manatees who just want to see who you are... the quieter you are the better the chance you will see them.
If you keep on going down there are many many cool waterside restaurants including my favorite SWAMP HOUSE GRILL to eat at..
Also.... eventually this empties into Lake George and on the north west side of that is Silver Glen springs.. again, long ride out.. watch your gas!!
